Our challenge for February and March was suggested by contributor ChiaraMeldis!
Change is an underlying theme in much of Tolkien’s work. From the change of the seasons, to a changed appearance, to winds of change, a change of venue, or even a change of clothes—so much can vary and alter the course of history.
Will you write about Eowyn’s change of heart or Thorin’s changed demeanor? What the change from grey to white meant for Gandalf?
How has Frodo changed by the end of The Lord of the Rings? Does Gwindor’s imprisonment tender him forever changed? Or Turin’s time with the outlaws?
How has Aragorn changed since he and Arwen first met? Is life in Gondor different for children born in the reign of King Elessar?
The stones in Eregion may be the same but the land is changed from its past glory. The Blue Mountains may still stand but the very land around them is altered forever by the War of Wrath.
Is Glorfindel changed in his rebirth? Melkor in his unchaining?
So many variables in the histories of Middle-earth—one small alteration can change the course of history.
What aspect of change will you choose? Or will you mix it up by changing the very fabric of the story to bring an original character to life, or set the story in a different setting/timeframe/universe? The choice is yours!
Our website may have changed but our email remains the same: to submit your art or fiction to the Teitho collection please send your entry to teitho.contest@gmail.com by March 31st!
