We've reached the time of year when the season changes. The leaves turn colors, then fall, and the temperatures fall as well Our theme for November and December will be Cold.
There are many examples of cold tempuratures in MIddle Earth. The Feanoreans experienced bitter cold while crossing the ice of the Helcaraxe. The Fellowship had to turn back from their attempt to cross Caradhras because of the cold and snow they encountered there.
Of course, cold doesn't have to refer only to temperatures! Aragorn described Eowyn as being touched with frost, cold and remote. The Rangers of Ithilien may have followed a trail left by an Easterling scout that suddenly went cold, leaving them unable to find their quarry. A young man in Dol Amroth might sign up to become a Swan Knight with no true idea of what to expect during his training, and would be said to be going in cold. A child of the Mark might be thrown from a horse when learning to ride, and be knocked unconscious, or be out cold.
