“I'll never forgive you, Legolas Greenleaf.”
“You don't mean that, Estel.”
“I do.”
“You don't.”
“I certainly do.”
“It is an imagination of your mannish brain.”
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“It means you are having hallucinations.”
“I am sure I am fine.”
“That is only an example of them, mellon nin.”
“Do not call me that.”
“Why not? You were the one that wanted to befriend me.”
“I was young!”
“Old enough to realize the consequences.”
“That's not true!”
“It is.”
“It isn't.”
“Estel, I have far more experience than you.”
“Says the elf who has been sheltered in a palace for several yén.”
“I wasn't!”
“Prove it.”
“Don't you dare!”
“Dare what?”
“Don't play foolish!”
“I don't know what you are talking about, princeling.
“Estel Elrondion!”
“Yes?”
“Get that smirk of your face immediately!”
“Oh, I'm so intimidated by your highness.”
“Stop mocking me!”
“Or else?”
“Or else I make those twin terrors pay for influencing you!”
“Ah, Elladan and Elrohir. Surely, go ahead.”
“You!”
“Me?”
“Auta mikula Orku!”
“How mature, prince Legolas.”
…
“It was all your fault.”
“Mine? You were the one who kicked me!”
“I warned you.”
“You did?”
….
“What was that for?”
“For being an immature, spoiled foster son of Elrond.”
“No Lord Elrond anymore?”
“Estel, I've had enough of your silly games.”
“Which-...”
“Au!”
“It was your own fault.”
“Since when is it someone's fault when they got kicked by spoiled elf princelings?”
“Curse you, Elrondion. You are almost an exact copy of your twin brothers.”
“I'm not!”
“Yes, you are.”
…
“That hurt.”
“I thought you wood elves had a love relationship with the nature.”
“In some way, we do. But that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when someone throws an acorn to their head!”
“Don't blame the nature, Legolas.”
“I never said I blamed them. I am sure I blame you!”
“Estel!”
“What?”
“Rolling your eyes is inappropriate for a man like you!”
“So you've finally accepted I am an adult!”
“I did not mean it like that.”
“Sure.”
“Stop imagining things that never happened, pen neth.”
“If you stop calling me that, ernil nil.”
“Wait! I did not imagine it!”
“You did. You just admitted it by offering me a deal.”
“I did not!”
“Oh, and Estel?”
“Yes?”
“Insulting me with the same insult but then in my language does not make it improve.”
“Go away.”
“It's a tad hard to do when we are stuck together here.”
“Why don't you try again?”
“Why should I? You were the one who managed us to get stuck here.”
“And?”
“You should be the one to free us. After that, we can both go our own ways.”
“How do you think we should do that? We can't move!”
“We can. You threw an acorn, remember?”
“Alright. We can barely move!”
“Sounds a bit better.”
“Legolas!”
“I'm listening, Estel. Besides, I'm an elf. You don't need to scream to get my attention, my hearing is much better than the hearing of you men.”
“Stop insulting me and help me! I'm tired, thirsty and I want to get out of here!”
“It would help a lot if you would stop yelling.”
“Legolas!”
“You are doing it again, tithen pen.”
“Changing one word doesn't make the insult improve either.”
“Who said it was an insult? It was a pet name.”
“Point one, I am not a pet! Secondly, is my name not enough? For the sake of the Valar, it's Estel! That's worse enough!”
“It fits you, although you do not realize it.”
“Legolas, I always get us in trouble! Can't you see I'm only bringing bad luck? Ada must be so glad when I am traveling. I can't do one thing right!”
“Oh, Estel that isn't true! We are just unfortunate to walk into danger each time. Even without you, I manage to get myself in trouble. Ask Lord Elrond, he has tended me more than once in the healing wing. You are a strong, honest and fair man. Keep hope, Estel. Do not regret your name, it has a meaning. A meaning which will show itself in time, as long as you keep hope!”
“But Legolas...”
“No buts. We are trying to get out of here. After we're free, you will take a hot bath and take rest. Tomorrow will be another day to talk.”
“Alright then. Legolas?”
“Yes?”
“We will always stay friends, won't we?”
“Of course, mellon nin.”
“Hannon Le, Legolas.”
“You don't have to thank me; Your friendship is enough.”
“Legolas...”
“For once, believe it! I never regretted our friendship and will never do. You are worthy of my friendship, I should be the one who isn't worthy enough! Don't doubt yourself, ranger of the North. Would I be your friend and companion if I couldn't stand you? Would I fight willingly side by side with you if I wouldn't trust you? Would I throw myself in front of any enemy if I wouldn't care? Estel, would I sit here talking to you if I wasn't fond of you? No. If I hadn't liked you, I would throw tantrums and throw myself around to get away of you. But do you know what? I am sitting here comfortable besides you, even when our space is limited and our tolerance of each other has become almost painful. I care, don't doubt that. If I would, I would agree with my father. But instead, I argued with him. You, Estel, have been more worthy of my friendship than any other person on Middle-Earth. I prefer die for you and with you than with any other elf. I don't care what my father thinks, or my friends in Mirkwood. I care about our friendship. Just take my words for granted! It hurts me that you doubt it, after all we've went through, as friends. Friends, Estel. Friends!”
“Hannon Le, Legolas. You are truly the best friend I ever had, besides Elrohir and Elladan. We might have our differences, but our friendship can bear that. Stubborn you can be as a dwarf, but you've got the heart of an elf.”
“Hannon Le, Estel. Though I must raise an eyebrow about the comparison with a dwarf.”
“Friends?”
“Always been.”
“Hannon Le for our friendship. I hope that it will last until the second I die, which I hope will be a while away. I plan on adventuring much more with you.”
“Mellon nin, if you die, I will be at your side. You won't depart from Middle-Earth without having me at your side. I, Legolas Greenleaf, herby promise you I won't set foot at the Havens unless needed until you die.”
“That's all I ask for, Legolas. But if your life is ever on the line, don't wait a second to think about me. Then I want you to set foot on that ship, with or without me being alive. Friends do that for each other, if you want it our not.”
“I promise.”
“Good. Herby I promise as Estel Elrondion and Strider of the North, that I will be the friend and companion until I die.”
“Hannon Le.”
