Middle-earth is, compared to our world, a place of magic and wonder. Yes the magic itself, although present, is used sparingly, and is not available to everyone. That makes it special and its use exceptional. In September, let us explore this supernatural aspect of Middle-earth - Magic.
According to Tolkien, magic is not good or bad, but is divided by the intentions and motives for its use. It can be used to create a preserve beauty, like the Three rings of the Elven lords, but also to dominate the wills of others, like the Nine that enslaved the kings of Men.
There are many forms of magic - a spell (like Gandalf's favourite fire spells), enchantment on an item (Sting, the Door of Moria...), innate abilities like healing powers, shapeshifting... Magic has many uses, but also limitations.
In your story or picture, you can show us any kind of magic. And, to tell the truth, writing a story or drawing a picture is a form of magic on its own. You transform the empty page or canvas to a piece of living imagination. That is the closest we can get to magic in our world, don't you think?
