Summary: Arwen tries to figure out why everyone is suddenly playing hide and seek with her.
Rating: K
There was a mysterious smile on her brothers’ identical faces and Arwen couldn’t figure out why. Her father was not available, busy dealing with a group of newly arrived Dunedain.
Arwen had been excited when they had first arrived, and rushed out to meet them, but the men’s leader Halbarad had told her Aragorn was busy and sent his love.
She walked down the corridor, knocking on the door of Glorfindel’s study. She waited for a minute but then went in. To her surprise, it was empty. But it was only logical; Glorfindel would be helping her father. So she sought out Erestor, who was sure to be in the library.
She entered Imladris’ massive library and made for the section of history and lore. She searched every passageway but there was no sign of Erestor. The serious old elf seemed to have vanished.
She spotted a young ellon and called to him. “Young Master Voronwë, have you seen Lord Erestor?”
Voronwë was extremely startled at being asked a question by the most beautiful lady in Rivendell and took a few seconds to reply. “No my lady I haven’t. I was seeing to the horses. One looked awfully familiar. She was brown with a white mark on her forehead; I put her in the last stall from the door.”
Arwen’s heart leaped for joy and she smiled her most charming smile at Voronwë. Then she spun on her heel and ran for the stables.
Just as she had guessed, Roheryn, Aragorn’s mare, was in the stall Voronwë had indicated. Arwen gave the horse an apple and walked out of the stables, determined to find where her mischievous brothers had hidden Aragorn.
She walked right up to their room. How silly of her not to check in there before this? She could hear laughter at the other end and entered without knocking. Instantly the room fell silent.
On a circle around the table sat Elrond, Glorfindel, Erestor, Elladan, Elrohir… and Aragorn.
The smirks on her brother’s faces still hadn’t been wiped away. Glorfindel’s eyes glinted with amusement and even the usually serious Erestor looked to be on the verge of grinning. Elrond was not happy with her relationship with Aragorn, but at the moment no one could have possibly guessed. All of them were ecstatic.
But Arwen barely gave them a second glance. Her eyes were only for Aragorn and his for her.
He smiled at her and she felt so elated and relieved to know that he was safe and sound. She smiled back at him.
Then she walked over to Elrohir and Elladan and gave each one a light slap on the cheeks. “You’ve been playing hide and seek with me all day long!”
Both of them grinned, “But it was worth it, wasn’t it?” they asked together.
And from the sidelines as Elrond watched, he realized that he was ready to let her lead a mortal life if that was what kept the smile on her face.
Author’s Note: I wanted this story to highlight the fact that Elrond did not hate or love Aragorn any less than before because of him falling in love with Arwen. That is one thing in the movie I think was a bit overdone.
