My dear Estel,
Whatever happens, I want you to know that I am forever grateful for your friendship. The few years we have known each other were the best times in my whole life. All the millennia I have lived without you were not that liveable. But since you literally fall into my life your very presence changed my mind and my heart.
You taught me to forgive, you taught me to trust in the human race once more. You taught me to give up many of my prejudges. You taught me more than I can tell and hopefully I taught you some things too.
All these years we built up a strong bound of friendship. We have gone through many adventures and even though some were very painful I would not want to miss any of them. You often gave me strength and courage when I gave up and in reply I gave them back to you when you lost them. We always supported each other. Some times one had to drag the other home to get him patched up by your father. Lord Elrond was not that pleased. I owe him my live many times and yours as well.
But we also had mirthful times to merely enjoy. We had horse races and archery contests in Mirkwood. We swam in the pools at the base of the falls in Imladris. We had long wanderings and hunting trips all over Rohan, the Misty Mountain and down to far Harad.
All I want to say is hannon-le, Mellon-nin. Thank you dearly for all we've shared and experienced together. You were like a brother for me, Estel, always keep that in mind. Now, that I am gone our friendship does not come to an end cause I stay alive in your memory. And even separated and in the undying lands I will always call you my friend. Do not let the grief overwhelm you for I will be fine at last.
Trust in yourself and your strength, Aragorn. You will find the courage to fulfil your destiny. I would have loved to see you then, but I know well that you will be a good and just king. No, do not argue me and do not doubt yourself. You are strong enough for that. Your heritage fits you better than you think and I always have and will trust in you. You are never alone. Namarie, Mellon-nin!
Yours in undying loyalty,
Legolas Thranduilion

The graceful elvish letters blurred before Aragorns vision. He blinked the rising tears away but could do nothing against the ache in his heart. His hands were shaking softly. Had he ever thought the elf had such deep feelings for him? Had he ever known that unwavering trust the elf had put in him? Yes, he had. Legolas had always been watching, caring and assuring. He thought of all the many cheerful moments between them, all the ventures they had experienced. Oh, dear Legolas!
Aragorn heard light footsteps next to him and looked up into a pair of familiar blue-grey eyes. For a moment he was stunned before he spoke.
"Why have you written this letter?", he asked, his voice full of emotion.
The blonde elf looked at him and smiled softly. "I wanted to say farewell if I should not have had the chance to see you before I die."
"But you didn't die!"
"No, but I wrote it when my father started having nightmares of my death."
Aragorn looked at his friend, deeply touched. "And then you gave the letter to Arwen to keep it save for me?"
Legolas nodded. "I wanted you to read it when I am dead."
"But you are not and I have it now!"
"Yes, but you are already king. A very good king at that and you don't need my advices any more. I think I had to write a new one."
"I do need you advices, Legolas! I will always need you. But I need you alive. You're an elf, you should never die”, Aragorns voice turned pleading.
Legolas grinned. "I will try, Mellon-nin, I will try."
The end.
