Dear brother, dear Imrahil...
Every mother has the privilege of giving her child the perfect name.
I had this privilege when my first son was born and I knew I would name him Boromir: Faithful Jewel
Faithful. Yes, faithful indeed. He was born and had his father's trust.
His eyes the same like mine but his smile, his smile the one of Denethor, my husband. He grew up. Having several sword lessons. He was hurt many times but smiled all the way. And he always made me laugh. He always cheered me up.
My little soldier.
I foresaw a glorious future for him, full of war, but his smile, his smile would stay.
Then, I experienced the joy of giving birth for a second time and again I had the privilege to name my son. He was my second jewel and the moment I laid a glance on him; I had already chosen his name. I would name him Faramir: Sufficient Jewel.
Sufficient. But so much more.
Denethor had left the room instead of welcoming my new-born. For him, Faramir was a burden, only that: sufficient. Not worthy of his love and trust. All this, I read in his eyes and it broke my heart. I got ill. And he blamed my boy. And my heart broke again. The more Denethor got ill- disposed, the more my illness increased. I was homesick. But not, when I looked into the eyes of my Mir. He would not be like his brother but loved and respected by our people.
There was a light kindled in his eyes, and it would prevail over any darkness. Faramir, my little scholar.
And, I miss them already. My jewels. My Boromir and Faramir.
Imrahil, keep this letter for me and pass it on. I have left when you read this, I fear. But, please remember. And help them to remember, for they have forever my love, my joy and my pride.
