Legolas skidded around the corner and nearly ran into one of the Royal Guard.
"Sorry!" He yelled over his shoulder. The guard shook his head and continued on his way.
Legolas dashed past the great doors and into the sunlight, and raced to the stables.
His horse was acting up again, and he had been summoned to calm him down.
As he neared the stables, he heard shouts and loud neighs, and the sound of hooves pounding against the ground.
Turning the corner, he was met with the sight of his grey horse running around in circles, his halter rope dangling and dragging across the ground.
A small cloud of dust had arose around the horse, and the elves that were surrounding him, trying to catch him, were all coated in a thin layer of dust.
Legolas shook his head in mild amusement. His horse could sure put up a fuss at times.
"I got it!" He said loudly.
The stable hands backed away and Legolas walked into the circle of elves that surrounded his horse.
He held put his hands, palms out, and said in a low voice,
"Calm down boy. Woah. Easy now."
He slowly shuffled his way over to the horse, still speaking.
His horse, rightly named Naur, which means fire in Elvish, pranced circles around Legolas, deftly avoiding the grabs for his halter rope.
He shook his head and whinnied. Finally, he began to calm down and Legolas grabbed the rope.
"It's okay, boy. That's it," Legolas said, stroking Naur's nose gently.
Naur snorted and lowered his head, nudging Legolas's chest.
Grinning, Legolas turned around and began to lead him back to the stables, but Naur braced his legs and refused to budge.
Legolas turned and tugged on the rope, but his horse wasn't about the give up.
"Oh, come on, you stubborn horse!"
Legolas pulled the rope again, and Naur moved forward suddenly, causing Legolas to fall onto his seat.
He could've sworn his horse was laughing, as he pranced circles around him.
Shaking his head, Legolas stood up and dusted himself off.
And realized that he had dropped the rope.
Legolas let out a huff of annoyance, and went after his horse again.
Though, this time, he was led on a merry chase around the grounds of his Adar's Halls. (Father)
Finally, Legolas managed to corner his horse and he grabbed the halter rope. But instead of trying to lead him, he swung up onto Naur's back and they made it back to the stables without incident.
"You're a strange horse, you know that?" Legolas said to Naur, as he brushed him down.
Naur nickered in reply.
"Oh, don't give me that." Legolas slapped him lightly on the shoulder, smiling.
Naur raised his head and flared his nostrils, as if saying, "I can do as I wish, thank you very much."
Legolas laughed.
After putting the brushes up, he headed back to his father's Halls.
