Our theme for February and March will be Rebellion.
Rebellion can bring evil, and grief. Melkor rebelled against Illuvitar's themes, introducing evil into the world and creating discord among the Valar. Feanor and his sons rebelled against the Valar, resulting in the Kinslayings.
On the other hand, sometimes rebellion leads to good in the long run. Eowyn rebelled against Theoden's orders for her to lead the Rohirrim when she disguised herself and rode to battle, and so the Witch King was defeated. Faramir rebelled against the laws of Gondor to set Frodo and Sam to go free, allowing them to complete their quest. Bilbo rebelled against Thorin and the rest of the company by taking the Arkenstone as his share of the treasure, and used it to bring an end to the Battle of Five armies.
Of course, rebellion doesn't need to be quite so dramatic, either. Sam speaks to Faramir as he would to a young hobbit giving him 'sauce' when confronted about trespassing in an orchard. Even Frodo admitted to having defied Farmer Maggot by stealing his mushrooms.
What story will you write to show rebellion? Perhaps one about a child in Lake Town playing truant from lessons to go swimming on a beautiful sunny day, and convincing their siblings or friends to go with them? Or maybe a tale of a pirate crew attacking a merchant ship from Dol Amroth?
