For the months of July and August, we once again have a delicious recipe for you to prepare. The ingredients are all listed below, but how you mix-n-mash them is completely up to you! As all great cooks make recipes their own by adding little touches and intriguing twists, dont forget to spice the result with your favourite flavours. This month, let's see what you can bake for our hungry Middle-Earth and Arda appetites!
The five ingredients are:
- humorous friendship moment
- spilled blood
- stars
- misplaced book
- flying creature
Each item on the list must appear in your story at least once, either physically or in dialogue. You don't have to use the exact same wording - for example, your story can contain a joke between old friends, an unfortunate slip of a hunting knife, a stitched star pattern on a velvet cloak, a cook hunting for her bound precious recipes, and a Great Eagle bearing a wounded warrior back to Gondolin. We've tried to make the list specific enough to be challenging, but not too restrictive as to choke your imagination. (Hope it works!)
There are many ways to go about this challenge, but if you need a hand in lighting your muse, here's a hint. You'll notice that the items on the list have qualifiers; something is happening or has happened to them. What was it? How did it come to pass? For example, who misplaced the book and how did it go missing? Where would friends come together and share a jest? What type of stars are seen in Middle-Earth and who is seeing them? How does seeing a creature fly overhead affect our favorite characters? Remember, it neednt necessarily be an evil like a Nazgul! Ask yourself these questions, and you'll have an interesting story bubbling in no time...
