Our challenge for October and November is Haunt. A word with a double meaning this time: a place where ghosts linger or a familiar, comforting place that is often visited.
The locals have long felt the land around the Stone of Erech is haunted.
Those who do not know much of Elves speak of Lothlorien and Mirkwood as haunted places.
Barrow wights. Ghostly kings who failed their Oaths. Spirits lingering in the Halls of Mandos.
Or will you choose the comforting meaning of the word and bring us to The Green Dragon, a well-known haunt of certain hobbits?
Does Gandalf have a haunt besides The Prancing Pony? Does the members of the Fellowship have a place they frequent that brings them comfort?
Is it an inn? A pub? The warm, welcome of a friend’s home? A clearing in the woods or a glittering cave? Perhaps a patch of garden?
Share your stories with us—to bring a shiver of foreboding or a warm welcome—at the familiar haunt of our online archive!
Please submit your stories to teitho.contest@gmail.com by the deadline of November 30.
Happy writing! Carawyn, lotrfan and Sian22
